Description

  • Ground adjustable pitch carbon propellers
  • For engines from 50 to 180 kW
  • Ultra-light propellers, full Carbon with Titanium leading edge protection
  • Many models in 2, 3, 4 and 5 blades
  • Both senses of rotation: CW and CCW
  • Tractor and pusher configurations, different chord widths and blade profiles
  • CW rotation: 47 to 82 inch, each 2 inch (120 to 209 cm, each 5 cm)
  • CCW rotation: 47 to 75 inch, each 2 inch (120 to 190 cm, each 5 cm)

If a drone project requires propellers of the same diameter in opposite rotation directions (CW and CCW), the maximum diameter currently offered is 74.8 inch.

2— Designed for each engine

Each E-Props adjustable pitch propeller is designed and developed for:

  • the characteristics of the motor and its gearbox (if applicable)
  • engine cooling and air flow study
  • a defined aircraft speed range
  • the aircraft configuration: tractor, pusher, high wings, low wings, wing/fuselage interactions
  • the use of the aircraft: speed, cruise, towing, STOL... and the desired performance

All models for engines from 50 to 180 kW have blades equipped with Titanium leading edge protection.
E-PROPS has also developed an exclusive system of spacers to move the propeller away from the engine fairing: the carbon ESU spacer — 13 times lighter than an aluminum spacer (1.5 g/mm vs 20 g/mm), available in 38 lengths, and integrated into the hub (no extra screws or bolts, avoiding vibrations).
Full carbon spinners are also available, in 15 diameters.

4— Ultra-light propellers

E-PROPS are by far the lightest propellers in the world. An ultra-light propeller has many advantages:

  • Any weight gain is very important — particularly true for UAV
  • A lighter propeller increases flying autonomy
  • Better powertrain operation: better engine performance across the rpm range, better linearity, less jerking when starting/stopping, less stress on the gearbox, fewer vibrations
  • Helps respect the engine's maximum Moment of Inertia
  • More reactive: direct piloting, no time lag, faster stopping, less stored kinetic energy — less damage in case of impact

5— Tightening torque

Tightening the fixing screws must be carried out carefully with a torque wrench, respecting exactly the values in the manual supplied with each propeller.

ScrewsTightening torque
Hub screws (M6)11 N·m
Motor fixing screws (M8)24 N·m

6— Max RPM & max power

Power (Watt) = torque (N·m) × rotation speed (rad/s)

To calculate the max power of a propeller model, you need the maximum torque absorbed by the blades and hub, and the maximum rotational speed of the propeller.

BladesMax torqueMax power
2-blade310 N·m115 hp (86 kW)
3-blade465 N·m172 hp (128 kW)
4-blade620 N·m230 hp (172 kW)
5-blade650 N·m240 hp (179 kW)

Example: for Rotax 9-series engines, maximum rotation speed at the propeller is 2,600 rpm (272.27 rad/s), measured as max engine speed / reduction ratio.

This range suits gear-drive engines and electric motors — never mount these models on direct-drive engines (except electric).

On electric motors, maximum rpm often depends on battery voltage, which reduces max power and rpm — take this into account when reading the curves.

7— Maintenance

  • Before each flight: visual inspection (particularly the leading edge) and check of screw tightening
  • Every 100 flight hours and/or every 6 months: check screw tightening
  • Cleaning: a sponge with soapy water, or a window-cleaning product

This range of propellers has a TBO of 4,000 hours.
